ONE new coronavirus death has been recorded and the number of coronavirus cases in Oxfordshire has increased by 92, official figures show.

Public Health England figures show that 10,624 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am today in Oxfordshire, up from 10,532 the same time on Thursday.

The health body is now including Pillar 2 tests – those carried out by commercial partners – alongside Pillar 1 tests, which are analysed in NHS or PHE laboratories and which made up the first stage of the Government's mass testing programme.

The rate of infection in Oxfordshire now stands at 1,536 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 2,580.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 16,298 over the period, to 1,690,432.

Oxfordshire's cases were among the 143,051 recorded across the South East, a figure which rose by 2,299 over the period.

Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died, official figures show.

NHS England figures show 207 people had died in hospital at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as of 5pm on Thursday.

That was an increase of one compared to Wednesday, when there were 206.

It means there have been seven deaths in the past week, up from three the previous week.

The victims were among 4,448 deaths recorded across the South East.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.
