RESIDENTS and staff at a South Oxfordshire village care home were among the first to get a dose of the newly-approved Oxford University/ AstraZeneca vaccine.

Healthcare workers from Chinnor Surgery set up a mobile clinic at Hempton Field care home in Chinnor on Monday.

Speaking about the vaccination programme that puts care home residents at the top of the priority list, home manager Sharon Thursby commented: “Our teams have been magnificent in how they have risen to every challenge during this pandemic.

“We are very proud to play our part in this next phase to ensure the most vulnerable people are protected in the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Being able to offer our residents and staff this protection is an honour and also a step in the right direction to finally getting back to normal after what it has been a very challenging year for all of us.”

Residents Elizabeth Wilson, George Frith and Margaret Rowe, who received the Oxford-made jab, all agreed that the process of vaccinations was ‘very exciting and well organised’, and that they were please to be some of the first in Oxfordshire to be vaccinated.

Resident Audrey Walsham, who was one of the first to receive the vaccine at Hempton Field, commented: “I am very pleased to have the vaccine.

“The doctor and nurse from Chinnor Surgery were very nice, and explained everything clearly.”

Care home residents are at the top of the list, which sets out nine categories of people most at risk.

The next category include those over-80s and all frontline health and care workers.
