Whilst the association points out that there are several benefits to winter swimming, such as reducing stress, improving an individual's moods, and improving one's immune system, it warned of potential hazards.

These hazards include:

1. Cold shock: which causes individuals to hold their breath when immersed into cold water consequently slowing down heart rates and circulation.

2. Hypothermia: defined as a body temperature below 35C. This can be mild, moderate or severe.

3. After shock: after leaving the water, cold blood from your limbs returns to your core causing the deep body temperature to drop.
