ANOTHER 14 people have died in Oxfordshire after testing positive for Covid-19 as the county recorded more than 1,000 new cases over the last five days.

Three more deaths were recorded in Oxford, four in South Oxfordshire, one in West Oxfordshire, three in Vale of White Horse and three in Cherwell.

This takes the total number of people lost to the virus in Oxfordshire to 583.

According to the Government's website, as of 4pm on Wednesday there were 229 new cases in the county.

These were the numbers in 24 hours by local authority:

Oxford - 68

South Oxfordshire - 37

West Oxfordshire - 21

Vale of White Horse - 44

Cherwell - 59

The total coronavirus cases since the pandemic started:

Oxford - 8,042

Oxfordshire - 28,739

Public Health England confirmed that the UK has recorded a further 1,725 Covid-related deaths in the latest reporting period – the second highest daily toll ever.

These are up by 94 from Tuesday, along with another 25,308 new cases.

The Government figures include confirmed cases only as some people who have the virus are not tested.

This brings the total number of people who have died from the virus to 101,887.

More than seven million people have received a first dose of a Covid-19 jab, and the number of people who received a second dose reached 474,156.

The R number, which estimates the growth rate of the pandemic, currently sits at between 0.8 and 1.
