A PERVERT caught with hundreds of indecent images has been branded a ‘Jekyll and Hyde character’.

Philip Morrell Robson, 77, from Goring, avoided jail yesterday after being handed a suspended sentence at Oxford Crown Court.

Robson, who has no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to possession of 108 extreme pornographic images involving animals, 105 prohibited images of a child (which were computer-generated), four category B pictures and five category C images.

He was given a 16-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.

The court heard images contained children ranging in age from three to 13.

A warrant for Robson’s arrest was executed in March 2018, with Judge Michael Gledhill QC asking why the case had taken so long to get to this point.

It was not until March 2019 that the images were viewed for classification.

Robson’s defence said: “He is somebody who has a relatively stable family situation and his risk of reoffending is therefore low.

“He is disgusted and ashamed at what he was doing, he would delete images if he found those that contained a child that may be distressed or in harm.

“He has taken steps in the last three years to receive help.

“Seeing pornography on the internet now gives him a feeling of revulsion and nausea.”

Judge Gledhill said: “Why there was this gap, I have no idea – whether it was utter negligence or lack of resources, but it is unacceptable.

“It has to be said to your credit, you admitted what you had done.

“Towards the latter part of your life, you have had an extremely unhealthy relationship with child pornography.

“What officers found was utter filth.

“You appear to be a normal character, but in fact you were a Jekyll and Hyde character.”
