ONE more person has died in Oxfordshire after testing positive for Covid-19.

The death, which was recorded in Cherwell, takes the total number of people who have died from the virus in the county to 710.

According to the Government’s website, as of 4pm on Tuesday, there were 35 new cases in the county – five more than the numbers from Monday.

These were the numbers for the past 24 hours by local authority:

l Oxford – 13

l South Oxfordshire – 4

l West Oxfordshire – 2

l Vale of White Horse – 9

l Cherwell – 7

The total number of coronavirus cases since the pandemic started are:

l Oxford – 9,042

l Oxfordshire – 32,132

Separate data from Public Health England figures show that 32,132 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 by 9am today in Oxfordshire.

This is up from 32,097 the same time on Monday.

The health body is now including Pillar 2 tests – those carried out by commercial partners – alongside Pillar 1 tests, which are analysed in NHS or PHE laboratories and which made up the first stage of the Government's mass testing programme.

The rate of infection in the county now stands at 4,646 cases per 100,000 people.

This is lower than the England average of 6,518.

PHE confirmed that the UK has recorded a further 343 Covid-related deaths and 6,391 new cases.

Cumulative case counts include patients who are currently unwell, have recovered and those that have died.
