It only costs £1 to adopt an iconic red phone box and it has been popular with many rural towns. Any recognised public body, such as a parish council, community council or town council, can apply. Boxes can also be adopted by registered charities or by individuals who have a payphone on their own land.

Some communities have installed defibrillators inside and others have transformed them into miniature galleries.
