Miss Oxfordshire winner Alex Evangelou had her hopes of becoming a city councillor dashed at the weekend.
The 24-year-old Oxford Brookes student was standing as an independent candidate in the Churchill ward – the same one held by city council leader, Susan Brown.
But the aspiring councillor received just 37 votes, losing out to Labour candidates Susan Brown, who defended her seat with 660 votes, and Mark Lygo, who was elected with 668 votes.

Speaking to the Oxford Mail ahead of the elections, Ms Evangelou said: “My main ethos is to make South Park safe. There’s been fights and assaults there, and it’s a huge safety concern.
“Women don’t feel safe but having lights and CCTV will help that.
“I’m doing this as a single issue campaign and will stand down when that is resolved.”
However, Ms Evangelou still has aspirations to take the title of Miss England.
Labour maintained its control of the city council after the votes were counted on Saturday night.
A long day of vote counting, beginning at 10am and ending at 8pm, resulted in 34 seats on the council for the Labour Party.
