More than 3,000 people have enjoyed Didcot Garden Town’s Garden Party this summer with a series of free activities and themed events.
The Garden Party has been running at the Cornerstone arts centre in the town centre over the summer holidays. Each weekend has a different theme, which has been chosen to help build stronger communities and bring new culture, art and leisure opportunities to people living in and around Didcot.
So far there has been a large variety of street and theatre performances, and residents have helped to make bug hotels, join in art and craft sessions, and even learnt how to juggle and walk a tightrope.
There is plenty more on during the August Bank Holiday weekend as Cornerstone will be transformed to host a folk and heritage weekend. On Saturday, there will be a feast of folk and roots music.
The Bank Holiday Sunday will host a Heritage and Stories day which will explore the town’s rich history and celebrate the wonder of a good story through street theatre, and there will also be a special performance based around a Mad Hatters Tea Party.
Councillor David Rouane said: “We estimate that we’ve been hosting around 500 people each weekend at our garden party. The events have been extremely popular, and we’ve had some great feedback from our residents – one lady told us that she thought the garden party has brought life to the town and that’s lovely to hear, particularly after we’ve all been apart so much during the pandemic.”
