School children have buried their memories of the pandemic in a time capsule leaving a lasting legacy on a new housing development.

The capsule was buried at David Wilson Homes’ River Meadow development by 28 year 2 children from Stanford in the Vale Primary School.

With the help of Long Creations, David Wilson Homes distributed booklets for the pupils to complete ahead of the burial, which detailed information about themselves, how they’ve felt during the pandemic and what they did to stay in touch with their community.

The time capsule is set to be opened in 2071 – 50 years from now.

Emma Dickinson, year 2 teacher and history co-ordinator at Stanford in the Vale Primary School, said: "The children have worked hard to complete their time capsule booklets with their families and included lots of great detail which will be amazing to look back on in 50 years."

The children left hand prints in their booklets, photographs and even a bottle of hand sanitiser and a face mask were placed into the capsule.

Local newspapers were also buried to capture the day’s headlines.

Campbell Gregg, managing director at David Wilson Homes Southern, said: “We’ve all been part of history over the past 18 months and, rather than dwelling on what has undoubtedly been a difficult period, we wanted to encourage local school pupils to stamp their place on the timeline of our River Meadow community."
