A HORROR start scuppered Eddie Pepperell’s chances at the Estrella Damm N.A Andalucia Masters.

The Frilford Heath member dropped eight shots in his first 12 holes in Spain on the way to a seven-over par opening round.

A triple-bogey eight at the fourth set the tone for Pepperell, who had a mountain to climb by the time he reached the turn.

A bogey at the eighth was followed by two more dropped shots at the par-four ninth as the Abingdon golfer slipped to six-over.

His misery was compounded by a second double bogey at the 12th, although Pepperell managed two birdies before another dropped shot at the 17th.

It was a less eventful day two for the 30-year-old, with a birdie at the 17th coming in the middle of a string of pars.

Pepperell is set to compete in Spain for the third successive week when the Mallorca Open gets under way on Thursday.
