A BEAUTIFUL snowy aerial view snap of Abingdon is just one of 800 pictures submitted into the festive drone photography competition.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)’s photography competition #SHOTONMYDRONE has launched a festive competition.

Drone users from across the UK are being encouraged to get outdoors and snap the best festive locations.

Competition organisers say there have already seen stunning submissions from Abingdon with one wintry snap of St helen's Church spire and the Thames covered in a blanket of white snow.

The photographer who enters the most Christmassy shot before January 5, will have their image placed on display at the London headquarters of the UK Royal Aeronautical Society, along with other category winners.

The highly anticipated competition will be judged by a panel of experts including CAA Chair and keen photographer Sir Stephen Hillier; Anna Henly an award-winning professional photographer; drone pilot and photography tutor; CAA drone inspector and BAFTA award winner John Livesey; and Tim Robinson, from the Royal Aeronautical Society.

Jonathan Nicholson, from the UK Civil Aviation Authority, said: “Our Christmas award celebrates the festive fun and magical memories users can have with drones when used responsibly. To make sure they do so safely, those taking their drone out for the first time over Christmas must make sure they follow the correct regulations and abide by the Dronecode.”

Drone users can enter the competition at caa-dronecomp.uk.
