AN Oxfordshire resident says the lateral flow test system is 'absolute chaos' as she struggles to get Covid test kits delivered to her home.

Michelle Thompson, from Wantage, has had Covid for seven days and under new rules can now take two lateral flow tests 24 hours apart to check whether she no longer has the virus and can stop self-isolating.

But she says no test kits have been available all week for her to order from the Government website.

The 43-year-old said: "Trying to have these sent home, because we have to isolate, is proving difficult. The message I get when trying to order them is 'not available'.

"This means I have to keep driving 20 minutes away to have a PCR test done, that is a 48 hour wait for a result.

"I went to my doctors to see if they had any but was shouted at for being out. This is absolute chaos."

Michelle is due to return to work tomorrow, but because she can't get a test, she won't be able to. Despite the other option being to collect tests from a nearby pharmacy, she can't because she must self-isolate.

She added: "I am supposed to return to work tomorrow. I will have to call them and say I can't return. Therefore incurring a wage loss."

Michelle has written to her MP David Johnston and says the experience is having an impact on her mental health and her son who is about to join the navy, as well as her finances.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid wrote to MPs over concerns about a dearth of lateral flow tests, saying the supply was being tripled in January and February from a pre-Omicron plan of 100 million to 300 million per month.
