A PARISH council could receive more than £500,000 of funding to demolish and re-build a sports pavilion dating back to the second world war.

Plans for a new sports pavilion on the grounds of a cricket pitch and four football pitches in Kingston Bagpuize were approved in November 2020. Now the parish council is seeking more than £500,000 of funding from the district council to complete the project.

The Vale of White Horse District Council cabinet members voted to recommend the council approve the £596,757.66 funding for the Kingston Bagpuize sports pavilion at a meeting on Friday 4.

Councillors also agreed that the increase in housing in the area has created a demand for investment.

Faringdon councillor Bethia Thomas said: "This is not in my ward but as a mum to a young cricketer I have been out to the existing facilities and they are not so good. Kingston Bagpuize has had so much development in the area and I think this investment would be a really welcomed move."

The vale of White Horse District council will make the final decision on the funding at a council meeting on February 16.
