The first bricks of the 226-home Abbey Fields development have now been laid.

Ahead of the Abingdon development's eagerly-anticipated launch, the first bricks have been laid by Campbell Gregg, managing director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Southern alongside sales director Rob Allen and construction director Craig Leverton.

The Dunmore Road development is set to deliver a collection of two, three, four and five bedroom properties and will provide about 452 jobs for people and will bring significant investment to the town.

The housing development is set to have a community centre, pharmacy and a park on its doorstep.

Mr Gregg said: “Our Abbey Fields development is starting to take shape nicely and we’re looking forward to unveiling a range of high quality properties for prospective buyers in this fantastic location.

“Throughout the development’s progression, we will be contributing to the local community through the new homes provided, jobs supported and our financial investment in the area’s facilities and services.

“We pride ourselves on our commitment to the local community at each of our new developments and we’re thrilled to have this opportunity to support the demand for new homes in Abingdon.”

This comes after a 12-year-old boy at Long Furlong Primary School won a competition to name the development.

Schoolboy Harry Wigginton chose the name Abbey Fields for the new Barratt and David Wilson Homes' development.
