AN eight-year-old girl from Didcot was selected from a theatre crowd to record a song with Britain’s Got Talent’s dance troupe, Diversity.

Faith Featherstone, who has been dancing her whole life, went to watch the musical group perform at New Theatre in Oxford last week with her mum Jennie and a friend.

The British street dance troupe led by choreographer Ashley Banjo, who are best known for winning the third season of Britain’s Got Talent in 2009, are currently touring the UK and were in Oxford for two nights.

On Tuesday, May 31, Faith was chosen from the audience by dancer Jordan Banjo to record part of a song that they would later dance to in the show.

Miss Featherstone, who runs Angels Performing Arts School in Didcot, said her daughter was “in her element” after being picked to perform.

“She was picked out of thousands of people,” she said. “It was a bass line with her voice that was mixed together and played to the audience.

“It was so fun and everyone at the end was saying she was amazing and she did really well in representing Oxford.

“She was in her element, out of all those children she got picked to go for it - it was so nice and really lovely.

“I was trembling thinking, ‘Ah, what will happen?’ But she was so natural at it. Afterwards was loving it and absolutely buzzing, I couldn’t believe it.”

After singing the words “drop that bass” into a microphone, the song was then edited and played to the audience as the dance troupe performed to it.

Faith was then able to meet Diversity after the show and get some pictures with the group who she has been a fan of “forever”.

Miss Featherstone added: “Our friends and family loved it. We’re all in performing arts, my parents and my sisters have all been brought up with performing arts in our lives – it’s a family thing.”

Angels Performing Arts School is also due to take part in a workshop with the dance group in September at the headquarters in Essex.

They will take dance lessons with the group as well as take part in a “question and answer” session.

Miss Featherstone has now started choreographing a new dance to Faith’s recording with Diversity and hopes the performing arts school can perform the routine at their next showcase.

“I’ve even sent it to Diversity on Instagram,” said Miss Featherstone. “They are super busy so haven’t replied but I started choreographing the routine the very next day.”
