OWNERS of a hotel near Wallingford have refused to comment on a fire that started in an outbuilding close to the business.

The cause of the fire, which happened at about 6.30pm on Tuesday (15) last week, at Shillingford Bridge Hotel is still unknown.

Emergency services were called after smoke could be seen billowing up from behind the hotel as the fire spread to staff premises.

Staff and guests, who were all uninjured, were evacuated and firefighters from Oxford, Didcot and Wallingford had extinguished the fire at about 7pm.

Investigations were ongoing until 1am, with Wallingford Road from the A4074 to Shillingford Road remaining closed, but a cause has still not been identified.

A spokesman for Oxfordshire County Council said the fire is not thought to be suspicious.
