VACCINE experts from Oxford and Switzerland are to discuss the future of global health during an event at St Hugh’s College.

The event, which was organised by the Embassy of Switzerland in the UK, is taking place today (June 30) from 3pm and will feature academics and company representatives behind the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.

Professor Sir Andrew Pollard, who worked on the covid jab and directs the Oxford Vaccine Group, as well as speakers from AstraZeneca and Zühlke, the Swiss company who developed the NHS app during the pandemic, will share their thoughts on the future of vaccines.

H. E. Markus Leitner, ambassador of Switzerland to the United Kingdom, said: “Both the UK and Switzerland are global leaders when it comes to science, both in business and research – it makes a lot of sense for us to be talking about vaccines and global health here and I’m very much looking forward to it.

“We were all so surprised of how fast it was to develop a response to the pandemic thanks to international cooperation and we want to explore new possibilities to work together in the future.”

Natalie Thomas, head of Swiss business hub United Kingdom and Ireland, said: “We are very excited to be launching this event – I think the face-to-face meetings will really strengthen the collaboration between the two nations, which worked to put together a solution to combat the pandemic.

“We are really happy to be able to showcase that today and it’s such a success story for Zühlke as well.”
