COVID cases in Oxford have increased again in the last week.

The total went up to 455 from 334, an increase of 36.2 per cent, putting the infection rate at 300.2 per 100,000 of the population.

The highest number of cases was reported in Oxford Central, where 52 people tested positive.

Cases for other areas are as follows: East Central Oxford, 26; North Central Oxford, 24; Summertown, 20; Marston, 21; Headington, 36; Osney, Jericho & Port Meadow, 23; Grandpont & New Hinksey, 22; Churchill, 30; Cowley South & Iffley, 31; Cowley North, 44.

Meanwhile, the number of beds at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust occupied by people who tested positive for covid more than tripled in the last four weeks.

As of Tuesday (June 28), the trust was caring for 89 coronavirus patients in hospital, according to NHS data – 28 days ago, there were 25.

NHS England data shows the number of people being treated in hospital for covid by 8am on June 28 was up from 52 on the same day the previous week.

Across England there were 8,120 people in hospital with Covid as of June 28, with 205 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalised nationally has increased by 101 per cent in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilators has increased by 72 per cent.

The figures also show that 66 new Covid patients were admitted to hospital at the trust in the week to June 26. This was up from 64 in the previous seven days.
