A COMMUTER from Abingdon is facing a fine after allegedly travelling on a train without paying his fare.

Pemba Sherpa, 34, of Willow Pike in Abingdon, is due in court for allegedly travelling with Great Western Railway without paying a fare.

The journey in question reportedly took place on March 2 this year from Reading. The journey cost £18.85 and Sherpa is being charged with travelling with “intent to avoid payment”.

He is due at Reading Magistrates' Court next week on Friday, July 29 in courtroom six.

Sherpa could face a fine of £20 or twice the amount of his ticket which would be £37.70 under the Penalty Fares Regulations.

He could also face victim surcharge costs and court costs.
