FIREFIGHTERS have warned about the dangers of blazes in fields after attending one this afternoon.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service reported that the on-call crew from Abingdon Fire Station dealt with the field fire just outside Sunningwell.

The fire service posted online: “On arrival, crews found a rapidly spreading field fire, but were able to quickly extinguish it using a high-pressure hose reel, beaters and a high-pressure fogging system on a specialist 4x4 vehicle.”

Watch manager Orr said: “It was very lucky that we were able to get to the fire so quickly, as the current dry conditions are perfect for rapid fire spread.

“Please be extra careful when out and about, especially with regards to the use of disposable barbeques.”
