“Once you’ve had a taste it becomes an addiction,” said Didcot musician who has been performing at festivals across the UK this summer for the first time.

Tom Webber has been performing since the age of 15 as a busker in Oxford after picking up a guitar for the first time only three years prior.

The singer-songwriter, who first performed at the Cornerstone Arts Centre in Station Road last year, has so far played at Isle of Wight Festival, Glastonbury, Henley Festival, Cornbury, Readipop, Womad, and Truck Festival, near his hometown.

With Bunkfest and The Big Feastival still to go, the 22-year-old has opened up about his “surreal” summer.

“It has been absolutely incredible,” he said. “I had only been to one festival before this as a festival goer and that was Truck in 2019 so to get the chance to play there was amazing.

“It was quite exciting as it was the first gig where people were sitting on each other’s shoulders. It was so surreal as I saw so many familiar faces in the crowd but I was surprised by how many people I didn’t recognise.

“It’s a local pride thing and I was really psyching myself up for it - luckily it went well. Glastonbury was the biggest highlight for me, I really enjoyed myself when I was there.”

When asked how he has managed to keep up with performances, the musician said he has been running on adrenaline.

He added: “I’ll probably only realise next year when I’m sitting have a cup of tea and I’ll think, ‘Oh my god, did that really happen?’

“But this train is only stopping once so I’ve got to keeping running with it and it’s nice to keep busy and occupied as it keeps me on my toes and keeps me from forgetting how to do it.”

After his own headline show, which will take place at Henley’s Kenton Theatre on November 11, Mr Webber hopes to focus on recording some new tracks.

“I’ll probably keep going after the festivals,” he said. “It’ll be more of a focus on getting into the studio as there are some tracks we still need to record.

“There will be some shows but it won’t be the festival mayhem of summer. Though I would love to do the same next year.

“I really, really want to go to Glastonbury again and do it with a band as once you’ve had a taster it’s like an addiction.”

Mr Webber’s newest single, “No Me and You” is out now on all streaming platforms.
