The latest cases from Swindon Magistrates' Court, include a bike thief and a woman who was allegedly drunk whilst in charge of a child.

TOWN CENTRE: A man has been ordered to pay compensation after he stole a bike in the shadow of Swindon’s football stadium. Connor Peter Kirkley, 27, of Station Road, took the bike from County Ground Lane on March 1. He had previously pleaded not guilty but was found guilty in his absence at trial. Kirkley was ordered to pay compensation of £365 to the bike owner and given no separate penalty for a separate offence of failing to attend the trial at Swindon Magistrates’ Court earlier in August.

OLD TOWN: Sorin Mohorea has elected to be tried by magistrates after denying to counts of causing actual bodily harm. The 38-year-old, of Swindon Road, denied two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, which relate to an incident involving a man and a woman on June 26 in Swindon. The case was adjourned until February 9, 2023.

TOWN CENTRE: Jonathan Brown has been given more time to complete his unpaid work. The 31-year-old, of County Road, had been given the community order in October 2021, but probation applied to the court to extend the order. Magistrates granted further time for the unpaid work to be completed, and all requirements must now be completed by October 18, 2023. Brown was not in attendance at the hearing.

COVINGHAM: Matthew Chance has been fined after he failed to attend unpaid work appointments. The 19-year-old, of Cullerne Road, was given a suspended sentence in October 2021 by Ipswich Magistrates’ Court. But he failed to attend unpaid work appointments on April 3, July 3 and July 17, and failed to provide evidence of a reasonable excuse. After admitting the breach, Chance was fined £110 and ordered to pay £60 costs.

PINEHURST: Chantelle Chelsea Hayward has been sent back to jail after she failed to comply with requirements imposed after her earlier release. The 30-year-old, of Pinehurst Road, failed to attend appointments on June 16, July 21 and August 5, and did not provide evidence of a reasonable excuse. Appearing at Swindon Magistrates’ Court, she was jailed for 10 days. Magistrates cited a “lack of [co-operation] and willingness to comply [with the] order”.

PARK NORTH: A woman has denied being drunk in charge of a child on Christmas Eve. The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was allegedly in charge of a child aged under seven years in Swindon on December 24, 2021. She has been bailed until the trial, at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on February 6, 2023.

RODBOURNE: A warrant was issued for the arrest of Kevin McDonald. The 33-year-old, of Groves Street, was due to appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court having pleaded guilty to assault. He admitted to assaulting a man in the town on February 19, 2022.

TOWN CENTRE: Bradley David Stephenson failed to attend to his unpaid work appointment. The 18-year-old, of Groundwell Road, was given a community order on May 26, but failed to attend the unpaid work and induction on July 8 and July 15, and did not provide evidence of a reasonable excuse. After admitting the breach, he was given seven extra hours of unpaid work and must continue with her rehabilitation activity days. He must also pay £60 in costs.
