There is an opportunity to meet Witney's brand-new Park Ranger and share what you think about Ducklington Lake and the meadows this weekend.

Carl Whitehead will be working to promote safe use of the town’s open spaces and to maintain and enhance existing habitats.

He has years of experience, having previously worked for Oxford City Council, where he was one of a team looking after more than 30 parks and green spaces, covering more than 1,000 acres.

While Mr Whitehead will be primarily working around the Lake and Country Park, the town council also has a significant tree stock which requires maintenance and future planning.

The role is a new post, which has come about following the town council's adoption of the Open Spaces Strategy.

He will be coming up with fresh ideas to help the council meet its objectives and aspirations.

These include improvements to angling facilities at the Lake and Country Park as well as a comprehensive improvement plan for the whole of that area.

The council also wants to draw up a comprehensive arboriculture plan and identify possible areas for rewilding.

Mr Whitehead is very friendly and approachable and feels strongly about an integration of conservation and recreation.

He places importance on the provision of areas where everyone can get the best experience possible.

He will be at the lake on Saturday August 20 between 9am and 12 noon to meet residents and is keen to hear their views.
