Boyz II Men proved they had lost none of their amazing R&B harmonies, or ability to charm their smitten fans, in concert last Saturday. The auditorium vibrated to ecstatic screams as the three soulful guys from Philadelphia crooned I'll Make Love to You, while throwing red roses into outstretched hands. In fact, it was the most vocal of audiences - something that the Boyz' older fans found a little hard to take in places. The guy next to me spent much of the time with his hands over his ears. But it all made for a fantastic atmosphere, and boy, did the Boyz deliver! The masters of harmony and gut-wrenching ballad - who, amazingly, have been around for 17 years now - were smooth, slick and irresistible in every way.

I love their mellow, sexy sound, and hush (well, mostly) descended as they gave us their biggest hits On Bended Knee and End of the Road. Boyz II Men's brand of hip-hop doo-wop spearheaded the renaissance of the R&B vocal group in the early 1990s, in the process revitalising Motown Records - and becoming the label's top act. By 1997, the band had sold more than 30 million albums.

The British tour has, unsurprisingly, seen sell-out concerts. These guys can sing, with a capital S, and they have great stage presence - we were eating out of their hand as they crooned Four Seasons of Loneliness and, later on, A Song for Mama. Things got jiggy with a look back to their Motown roots, and their hit Motownphilly, and the funky Boyz II Men had everyone out of their seats and dancing. We can only hope the Boyz come back soon...
