A group of healthcare workers took part in a bike ride from Abingdon to Oxford to raise awareness of climate change, ahead of COP27.

The event was part of a series of bike rides set up by Climate Acceptance Studios (CAS), called Ride for their Lives 2022, where healthcare workers aim to raise awareness of environmental issues and the impacts these issues will have on the world’s children.

The group feel the environment and health are interconnected and cycling is a way to improve fitness and reduce our carbon footprint.

On Sunday (October 30), the healthcare workers cycled Long Furlong Medical Centre in Abingdon to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

Organiser Dr Angela Wilson, who is also one of the co-founders of the local Greener Practice group which works to make primary care more sustainable, said cycling is good for her wellbeing and now uses her bike to get to work.

Caitriona Mellor a GP trainee a GP trainee said: "The climate crisis is a health crisis, the things that are good for the planet are also good for our health".
