SIMON Eastwood is set to return in goal this weekend for Oxford United after missing the last four games with a calf problem.

The 33-year-old has been forced to watch on from the stands as his deputy Ed McGinty filled in.

McGinty made his league debut in the 3-0 defeat at Ipswich Town, played two further Sky Bet League One fixtures and was between the sticks for the Emirates FA Cup clash against Arsenal.

Eastwood was on the bench against the Gunners and United head coach Karl Robinson said he would return for the trip to Fleetwood Town tomorrow.

The U’s boss said: “The fact Easty’s out injured for certain games and then the cup comes around after that, we always spoke to Ed about being that cup goalkeeper when we signed him.

“That’s what we told him so that’s why we kept our word.

“He’s our young goalkeeper so the experience he gains in these games is important for his future.”

Another goalkeeper on United’s books, but currently out on loan, is Jack Stevens.

The 25-year-old is with fellow League One side Port Vale for the season, and Robinson said he is going to watch him play when the Valiants host Peterborough United on Monday night.

Asked whether the club would recall Stevens, Robinson said: “We’re having consistent conversations with the goalkeeping department, it’s their decision.

“These are conversations and debates we have on a regular basis.”

Robinson also confirmed Kyle Joseph will be in the squad to face Fleetwood, after missing the last two months due to injury.

The Swansea City loanee was stretchered off in the first half of the 1-1 draw at Shrewsbury Town on November 9, following a challenge on him from Tom Flanagan.

Wind gusts are set to hit more than 40mph in Fleetwood tomorrow afternoon, according to the Met Office, and Robinson said the conditions would have an effect on the match.

“The weather forecast with the gale force winds, there’s better places to be,” he said.

“It’s going to have a massive impact on the game.

“We’ll rotate quicker and we’ll have to keep the ball on the floor.

“It’s the same for both teams, the difference is they’ll be used to playing in these sort of conditions.”

Scott Brown’s side knocked Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers out of the FA Cup last time out with a 2-1 win on home soil.

Robinson said: “They looked dominant from set play routines and they looked very strong in their structure out of possession.

“We know how good they’re going to be.”
