An operatic group will be performing “one of the greatest musicals of the twentieth century” in an upcoming series of shows.
Abingdon Operatic Society have been rehearsing for their performance of Rogers and Hammerstein’s Carousel, which the ensemble will be staging at Amey Theatre, Abingdon School from today (Tuesday 11) to Saturday, April 15.
The show’s story revolves around carousel barker Billy Bigelow, whose romance with millworker Julie Jordan comes at the price of both their jobs.

He participates in a robbery to provide for Julie and their unborn child; and then, after it goes tragically wrong, he is given a chance to make things right.
A secondary plot line deals with millworker Carrie Pipperidge and her romance with ambitious fisherman Enoch Snow.
