A boutique hotel has been handed a low food hygiene rating being told improvement is 'necessary'.

The Crazy Bear Hotel, at Bear Lane in Stadhampton received a two-out-of-five rating after an inspection on September 13.

The rating on the Food Standards Agency's website states improvement is "necessary".

It means that of South Oxfordshire's 282 restaurants, cafes and canteens with ratings, 144 (51%) have ratings of five and just one has a zero rating.

The renovated pub, which is located on Bear Lane, was the first of the Crazy Bear Hotels which are known for their luxurious interior design.

The reception is inside a converted London Routemaster bus and the hotel is surrounded by its own 80 acres of farmland.

The Food Standards Agency is in charge of inspecting and rating hospitality venues on a zero to five scale, zero is the lowest score and five is the highest.

The inspectors judged the restaurant with regard to hygienic food handling, cleanliness and the condition of facilities and management of food safety.
