A 'café with a conscience' has debuted at the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus to serve the people of Didcot with locally-sourced food and beverages.
The Lightbox Café will be opened to both the Oxfordshire community and those working on the campus.
Operating as a family-friendly coffee house during the day, Lightbox Café offers artisan coffees, premium teas, and a variety of 'trendy' brunch options.
The café intends to become a space to chill with friends, or even bring the dog.
From Wednesday to Friday nights, it morphs into a cosy bar ideal for post-work socialising, offering cocktails, mocktails, and a selection of small plates.
Ingredients have been sourced from local growers, butchers and bakers, and from the Harwell site itself, maintaining a zero waste initiative.
Sam Mitchell, of Lightbox Café, said: “Lightbox Café is a place where everyone, whether they are on site, live nearby or are just visiting the campus, is welcome.
"Somewhere they can relax, enjoy a meal or a drink, knowing that the environment has been considered in everything they buy.
“We hope it will be a space where future generations are inspired by the Harwell community and by our ethos of sustainability.
"But most of all, of course, it is about delicious food, drink, and snacks - and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.”
The café has established a partnership with United Fresh, enabling it to source the best quality seasonal produce from regional growers.
Every morning, Lightbox Café brews Fairtrade coffee and donates 5p to Mental Health UK for each cup sold.
