Streets in Abingdon have been affected by severe flooding.

There are 27 flood warnings in place across Oxfordshire, with the Environment Agency expecting flooding on the River Cherwell, the River Thames, River Ray, River Stert in Abingdon and at Chalgrove Brook.

Today the Met Office is forecasting a mainly dry day in Oxfordshire but the heavy rain has left some roads in Abingdon covered in flood water.]

Adam Whitfield posted pictures on Facebook of Farm Road, off Dunmore Road, covered with flood water this morning.

Herald Series: Farm Road in AbingdonThere is also surface water on Dunmore Road but it is not blocked.

Mr Whitfield, who lives in the area, posted: "Bottom of Farm Road this morning.

"Doesn’t bode well for one of the 1/100 year storms the developers ‘model’ their flood infrastructure on. (I) stopped when it reached the height of wellies (on pavement)."

Herald Series: Flooding in AbingdonHe said afterwards: "The houses/bungalows at the bottom are appeared affected. It’s not as bad as 2007 (although we’ve not had as much rain this time) but some will have been living there and flooded then.

"There’ll be various people/things to blame. One thing that was raised by myself (and others) when the planning for the Kings Gate development was published, was that by building houses on top of a flood plain and then diverting water into a holding pond (which feed the existing River Stert and culvert running adjacent to Farm Road) was that you were potentially diverting more water than the culvert was ever designed to cope with.

"It was claimed that it could cope with a 1/100 event. However, yesterday and even December has not been a 1/100 year amount of rainfall."

Herald Series: Flooding in AbingdonChilton Close off Appleford Drive has also suffered flooding.

Herald Series: And there is a post on Abingdon on Thames Facebook that there was some flooding in the Tesco Extra car park off Marcham Road at 10am.
