South Oxfordshire District Council is in need of 40 extra staff to conduct the police and crime commissioner election on May 2.

The council is looking to fill vacancies for poll clerks and presiding officers, especially around Henley and neighbouring areas.

Presiding officers will receive £251 and be required from 6.15am to 10.30pm while poll clerks will receive £200 and be required for the same hours.

Hundreds of people have already signed up to help in the running of the election, but there is still a need for more.

Returning officer for South Oxfordshire, Mark Stone, said: "We need to fill these roles as quickly as possible, so if you are available on May 2 and interested in working at the elections, please get in touch with our elections team."

The roles are open to anyone who is 18 or over and is entitled to work in the UK.

The council is unable to offer these roles to people who work for or are connected with a political party.

The council is also welcoming expressions of interest from people who would like to hear about job opportunities for the general election which is expected to take place later this year.
