Trains had to be held between Didcot Parkway and Oxford due to engineering works causing delays for commuters on Easter Sunday.
There were delays on the line with traffic wires initially attributing the stopped trains to the "late finish" of engineering works.
Great Western Railway (GWR) described it as "emergency works" with Network Rail taking possession of the line at Didcot Parkway to fix a set of signal points.

The line was reopened shortly after midday but trains continued to be affected as the 3.30pm train towards Oxford had to be cancelled, according to the GWR's website.
A GWR spokesperson said: “Emergency engineering works meant some trains between Reading and Oxford were unable to call at Didcot Parkway on Sunday morning.
“Network Rail took possession of the line at Didcot Parkway to fix a set of signal points and handed back the line shortly after midday.
