A charity which helps disabled and less mobile people to get out on the River Thames has been boosted by London Marathon runner's donation.

Abi Turner, a member of Benson Striders Running Club, raised more than £2,500 for the Wallingford Accessible Boat Club.

She said: "It was hard work from the 18-mile mark but I knew I had to keep going and just get on with it.

"I feel so pleased with myself and so very happy that I have managed to raise so much money for such a deserving cause.

"Wallingford Accessible Boat Club do an amazing service for the local community and I am proud to be one of their Community Champions."

Ms Turner completed the marathon in just over five hours.

Boat club chairman, John Jenkins, added: "We are so excited for Abi and so very grateful to her for what was a marvellous effort – to achieve her lifelong ambition is very special for her.

"And her enthusiasm to support Wallingford Accessible Boat Club is very contagious - it has rubbed off on a friend, Becky Shaw, who runs a Chi-Chi dance school in Cholsey and Benson, and who has decided to raise money for Wallingford Accessible Boat Club too."

Becky's charity dance day is set to take place on June 22 between 10am and midday at the Benson Community Hall.
