Boris Johnson has slammed a "sickening" deal as his next move was announced.
The former prime minister, who lives in Brightwell-cum-Sotwell near Wallingford, has criticised US President Donald Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Russian fuel, which is reportedly aimed at helping stabilise global fuel prices.
The 62-year-old said: “It is sickening that the USA is now lifting sanctions on Russian fuel, and transparently ridiculous to blame Ukraine for the spike in prices that obviously began with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz."
Mr Johnson, a former MP for Henley, accused Russian president Vladimir Putin of continuing attacks which have killed civilians and children and damaged homes and infrastructure across Ukraine.
He argued that Ukrainians continue to fight for their country’s existence while American motorists would effectively be helping to finance Russia’s war as a result of the decision.
Mr Johnson also questioned whether lifting the sanctions would have a significant impact on fuel costs.
“It won’t work and I doubt it will make much difference to the price of fuel. If we want Russian oil and gas back on the world market then let’s end this war - with a free, sovereign and independent Ukraine,” he added.
This comes after the former PM saw a wave of enthusiasm for his newest venture which he publicised on his Instagram page.
Mr Johnson has now published his memoir Unleased translated in Ukrainian, in another sign of his support for the war-battered country.
He said: "I'm so thrilled that Vivat Publishing has decided to bring out a Ukrainian edition of my memoirs. it has a lot of Ukraine in it. A lot of very exciting stuff.
"And this is a time when Ukraine is under terrific pressure - of course Ukraine is going to win."
The publication has prompted fans to rally around the Oxfordshire resident who were left impressed with his continued support of Ukraine.
One person said: "Thank you for your support! Ukraine will always remember your help before and during the full-scale invasion.
"You've earned a special place in our history as a true friend."
Another added: "Buy the book! I’ve almost finished it and it provides a great insight as to what it was like when Boris what PM, reading the book certainly proves a lot of the media and stereotypes wrong!
"But also very entertaining and occasionally witty. Best political book I’ve read."
While a third said: "I’ve already bought six copies of this great book . It’s so well written and it makes great points about Ukraine.
"I love that someone in Britain is so passionate about Ukraine. And on other subjects, well it’s simply so well researched and well written. All Boris Johnson’s books are a great read."
