Police said a 'suspicious' man who was spotted 'wandering and hanging around' an Oxfordshire village has been apprehended.

Thames Valley Police responded to multiple reports from what they described as 'vigilant' residents in Sutton Courtenay about a 'suspicious male'.

People said that on October 6 and October 7 the man was seen 'wandering and hanging around' The Hawthorns area of the village.

Officers confirmed that he was apprehended and 'dealt with'.

A spokesperson for the force added: "We would like to assure residents that his intentions did not extend to burglaries of dwellings nor breaking into cars and that it was solely an isolated incident he was involved in.

"Thank you to all residents who helped us with our enquiries through CCTV submission and speaking to our officers who were out and about."
