Residents can help out good causes at the same time as being in with a chance of winning a weekly £25,000 jackpot.

The White Horse Community Lottery will be going on sale this week.

Players of the lottery can choose which local good cause they want to support when they purchase tickets.

Tickets cost just £1 per week with 60p from every ticket sold going to support charities and community groups across the district.

Tickets go on sale on Thursday July 29 and the first draw will take place on Saturday September 18.

As part of the first draw the council will donate £100 to five good causes which will be chosen by winners.

Vale of White Horse District Council started its own lottery as a fun and creative way for voluntary and community groups to raise much needed funds.

Councillor Margaret Crick, Chair of the Council said: “I’m so pleased that the date for the first lottery tickets going on sale is here. The lottery is a such a good way for people to get involved in supporting local organisations. Residents can choose where they want their money to go, and they too can be winners. It’s so simple to be a part of, both for the player and the good cause or causes they choose to support”
