A CROWDFUNDING web page has been set up to help a grandfather whose prized MG car was stolen from his driveway.

Bill England’s 1965 Magnette was taken from outside his home in Harcourt Way, Wantage, sometime after 11pm last Tuesday.

Just two days later police said they had found the car in Bradfield near Reading, apparently ‘torched’.

Now fellow enthusiast, Alex Singleton, has started a campaign to raise £10,000 for Mr England to either repair or replace the vehicle.

Writing on his fundraising web page he said: “As a classic car owner myself, I know first hand just how much care, attention, time, effort and money that goes in to ownership of a classic car.

“This owner has had his Magnette for more than 40 years, and had kept it it top condition. Not just as a classic, but as an everyday vehicle and it was a regular site on Oxfordshire roads.

“On February 20, his pride and joy was stolen from him.

“No amount of money can honestly replace the irreplaceable, but it can help towards the cost of repairing or buying another classic, or even just to give Bill a holiday following on from this horrible experience.”
