WOW! February already!

The last time I wrote my one of my pieces for The Herald, The Music Box we were on the run up to Christmas shelves stocked high for all your vinyl needs.

The portable record player proved as popular as previous years selling many makes and models especially our Steepletone range.

We even acquired a few original ‘Dansette’ style players which we reconditioned and sold.

They have such an authentic old sound, it really is lovely to see and hear them working again.

We have also started selling Henley Audio Pro-Ject record decks, made by world-class experts in Austria – our own introduction into a higher-end type of audio equipment.

So far, 2018 has been a little bit crazy in our Music Box world: due to essential building improvements we closed for most of January and should be reopened as you are reading this article.

As part of the improvements we are planning an area where you can enjoy a coffee whist rummaging through boxes of records or you other half can rest his or her weary legs whist you spend hours flicking through racks of records .

While we’ve been closed we’ve been focusing on some of the collections we have had in storage, also driving around Oxfordshire picking up collections looking for good, all-round affordable titles to price up on the shelves.

We pride ourselves on not only selling collectable sought-after items (recently selling first pressings of Beatles, Rolling Stones, Nick Drake, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd) but also bargain bin boxes where you can often find a little gem for a couple of pounds.

There’s always a Simon & Garfunkel or an ABBA record amongst the Top of the pops & Herb Alpert LPs

March will bring some great new releases and in April we have Record Store Day to look forward to where once again we will have limited releases and – we hope – queues around the block.

We'll put out some more information about that event nearer the time.

Don’t forget you can always catch us in Didcot the second Saturday of the month at Cornerstone with our pop-up stall.

Meanwhile, pop in to Music Box Wallingford for all your vinyl needs and maybe get a coffee why you are there – my barista skills will give those high street coffee chains something to worry about .. maybe.

See you soon.
