LAST month marked the beginning of this year's summer recess.

This parliamentary term has been dominated by news about Brexit, but work on all areas has continued, so I wanted to take a look at some of the excellent achievements of the last few months.

In April, the government raised the Personal Allowance again and increased the National Living Wage to £7.83 per hour, allowing families to keep more money in their pockets.

The Prime Minister also announced an extra £20 billion a year in real terms for the NHS by 2023/24, and last month announced the biggest pay rise in almost 10 years for around one million public sector workers across Britain.

In July, Parliament passed legislation to introduce the energy price cap, protecting up to 11 million households on default tariffs.

In June, the government backed Heathrow expansion, providing benefits of up to £74 billion to passengers and the wider economy.

And in May sectoral deals in artificial intelligence and nuclear energy were announced, part of the modern industrial strategy to create better-paid jobs across the country.

Overall, the economy is now 16.7 per cent bigger than 2010, and has grown for eight consecutive years. Debt will begin to fall as a percentage of GDP next year, meaning more money for our public services instead of debt repayments.

Employment is up by 3.3 million, with the unemployment rate at its joint lowest level since 1975. Female employment is at a record high, and youth unemployment is down by 415,000.

The NHS in England performed 2.2 million more operations than in 2010; over 2.8 million more people went to A&E last year; and there are over 14,900 more doctors and 12,900 more nurses on our wards.

Continuing with the aim from 2010 to be the greenest government ever, the use of plastic bags has been cut by 83 per cent – meaning 9 billion fewer bags used.

The government have decarbonised our economy faster than any G20 country in 2016.

Between 2010 and 2016, UK greenhouse gas emissions were reduced by 22 per cent.

All remarkable achievements, none of which would be possible without a strong economy built since 2010.

I hope you all have a relaxing summer.
