Sir, I did smile at John Gordon’s letter supporting John Cotton and his dislike of Morrisons.
No doubt, Mr Gordon shops at Waitrose, a shop I have never been to, but I do hear about it. All the ‘extras’ it sells as well as food and drink — newspapers, cards, household goods, towels, bedding, electrical goods, bird food, plants and a dry-cleaning service. Oh, yes, and free coffee.
As well as Pettits and Champions, doesn’t it hurt KP and the coffee shops?
Wasn’t it Mr Cotton who said Morrisons could sell 80 per cent food and drink and 20 per cent ‘other’? What does Mr Gordon suggest the ‘other’ should be?
Pity Mr Cotton was not on the council when Waitrose was passed. What a monstrosity, an eyesore completely out of keeping with Wallingford.
