Sir – As I start writing greetings cards, I again welcome Amnesty International’s attention to many people who will be especially glad to be receive one.

A ‘write for rights’ booklet details injustices faced by, among others, a student, a cartoonist, a girl forced into marriage, a torture victim and a jail inmate of 43 years.

I and a host of others write to them first to remind them that people from outside care, and also in the hope of helping to make a real difference in their lives.

I was delighted to see the booklet’s report that one of the people in 2014’s campaign has since received an official pardon.

The booklet (www.amnesty.org.uk/write) contains full instructions and excellent sketches of the people we are asked to help. I am glad that Abingdon Library displays one.
