Sir – In your front-page article of January 13 regarding the relocation of Wantage Tennis Club (WTC) there were a number of inaccuracies and I would like to clarify matters if I may.

WTC has NOT applied for planning permission on the Foliat Drive site, and thus has not looked to add more houses to the previous permission. We have sold the site and it is the developer who has made the applications.

Your article then went on to refer to our proposed “private” courts at our new location in Manor Road. This seems to me an odd description as anyone is welcome to join WTC, the status of the courts being no different to, for instance, the football pitches behind Wantage FC, yet they are never referred to as “private”. WTC welcomes members of all abilities irrespective of colour, age, gender, shape or size.

We have entered into an exciting partnership with Vale of White Horse District Council in order to improve the tennis facilities in our town and hopefully increase participation.

If any readers like the idea of keeping fit and having fun, WTC looks forward to welcoming them, either as members, or as users of the two public pay-and-play courts we are refurbishing. We will be managing these courts with a more accessible booking system than has been previously available.

Our new facilities should be up and running in the spring if all goes well.
