It seems to be generally agreed that the £4m-plus spent on AbITS has not delivered the expected improvements.
The county council has decided to undertake a review of the SCOOT traffic control system by the Transport Research Laboratory, followed by the commissary of a consultant to undertake a review of the effect of the scheme on the town and surrounding area.
Provisional dates of April for the Transport Research Laboratory review and May for a report from them have been given to me.
I feel that more urgency is needed, both in getting the Transport Research Laboratory review done and in getting the consultant to report. In view of the ongoing bad traffic situation, I suggest that readers write to councillor Ian Hudspeth at County Hall (or e-mail Ian.Hudspeth@oxfordshire.gov.uk, urging a speedier review by the council of AbITS.
Mr Hudspeth is the executive member responsible for transport implementation in the county.
