Sir, It is good to see the £450,000 being spent on further work to improve the appearance of the High Street in Abingdon.

The work that has been carried out on Stert Street and the Market Place has certainly improved the environment.

However, as the parents of two children who cycle daily to schools in Abingdon, surely a greater priority should be to improve road safety in Abingdon for all our children.

We have been promised there is £35,000 to be spent on road safety improvements. Can our councillors please explain: Why are the funds for road safety which could save lives less than ten per cent than those available for environmental enhancements?

When are words going to be turned into actual actions, such as a traffic-controlled crossing on the Wootton road beside the roundabout next to the Dunmore Road, to improve road safety for all who walk and cycle in Abingdon?
