Sir, I refer to the announcement of a zero waste scheme to commence in Dorchester shortly. This is something we should all be proud of and I personally wish it every success.
However, I do find it extraordinary that on one side of the Wittenham Clumps, just three to four miles downwind of the Waste Recycling Group landfill site, this progressive project is being promoted, while on the other an incinerator is being proposed — a project directly hostile to zero-waste efforts. By the time this letter is published, the Sutton Courtenay incinerator may well have planning permission to go ahead.
What is happening at Oxfordshire County Council is like a slowly-exploding bomb of misguided decisions, especially when the alternative technologies are greener, cheaper, safer and more flexible.
When will they wake up to what is going on and ask themselves in whose interest they are acting — certainly not their constituents?
