West Ilsley trainer Mick Channon has added two further strings to his bow for Royal Ascot next week with Ambiance and Jallota winning in good style.

Ambiance put a disappointing Newbury debut behind him to beat Searchlight by a length and a quarter in a five-furlong maiden at Ripon under Sam Hitchcott.

He is now set to run in the Norfolk Stakes tomorrow week, with Channon saying: “He’s our stand-out sharp two-year-old, and I feel that we're just coming right now.”

Hitchcott was also aboard as Jallota made it third time lucky with victory at New-market, beating Brown Sugar by a length and a quarter in a six-furlong maiden.

Channon believes a crack at the Coventry Stakes on Tues-day may now not be too ambitious for the progressive juvenile.

He commented: “You should have seen him in the New Year, he was a big, daft playboy who would bounce around everywhere with little regard for what we were trying to do for him.

“He’s always shown us plenty, but we had to get him racing to knock that daft streak out of him.”

Jallota’s success sparked an across-the-card double for the West Ilsley handler on Saturday, with Shore Step scoring at Haydock.

The three-year-old gelding quickened up well for Martin Harley in a six-furlong handicap to beat Robot Boy by a length and a half.

The West Ilsley trainer notched up another across-the-card double on Monday with Highlife Dancer and Homestretch.

Highlife Dancer made it two wins in the space of four days when following up his Bath victory with a clear-cut success at Brighton to take his career tally to ten.

Charlie Bishop was in the saddle on both occasions, with his mount stepping up on his neck win in a mile and a half handicap at the Somerset venue with a two-and-a-quarter lengths verdict over at the Sussex track.

Highlife Dancer’s win was followed later in the day by Homestretch making a successful debut at Windsor.

Channon believes he has an exciting prospect after the two-year-old, who holds a Derby entry, only had to be pushed out by Harley to defeat Rock Of Dreams by half a length.

John Fahy not only rode Clement to victory for Eve Johnson Houghton at Ling-field, but he also saddled the gelding with the Blewbury trainer delayed on the M25.

The four-year-old, owned by Johnson Houghton’s mother, Gaie, stayed on well to beat Repetition by a length in a seven-furlong handicap.
