SORRY Didcot virtually surrendered their Cherwell League Division 2 status with a woeful batting display as they went down by six wickets at home to fellow strugglers Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts on Saturday.

Didcot were shot out for a pathetic 32 in 23.5 overs, Atif Ali decimating the home side to take 7-14 in 11.5 overs.

Only Shaun Burningham and skipper Sam Couldrick managed to reach double figures, while there were six ducks in the Didcot innings.

Openers Jonathan Guthrie and Pablo Mukherjee fell quickly to leave Nondies at 8-2 in reply.

However, Ali completed an excellent all-round performance, his 22 not out steering the visitors to victory in the 12th over, despite his side losing two more wickets along the way.

The dismal defeat almost certainly condemns Didcot to relegation, while Nondies live to fight another day after moving 25 points clear of their relegation rivals.

Abingdon Vale secured their Division 2 status with a crushing eight-wicket win at Challow & Childrey.

Spin duo Jonathan Jenkinson (3-10) and Paul White (3-51) combined to dismiss Challow for 145, before youngsters Tom Price (61no) and Ben Charlesworth (58) led Vale to 146-2 in the 37th over.

In Division 3, Blewbury & Wallingford fell to a two-wicket defeat at home to basement boys Dinton 2nd.

Scott Harris scored 53 not out and Mark Carey 32 as Blewbury set 180-9 in their 53 overs.

But 73 not out from Ashley Smith and 40 not out from Ollie Chaplin helped Dinton to victory at 184-8 to keep alive their hopes of avoiding the drop.

Kingston Bagpuize are another step closer to relegation from Division 4 after they could only muster three points in a drawn clash against visitors Brackley.

Luke Stone hit 55 and Robert Cartwright 45 in Brackley’s 234-6 declared.

Arthur Verdin scored 40 in Kingston’s reply as they crawled to 126-9.

Abingdon Vale 2nd are up to fourth in Division 5 after edging to an exciting two-wicket victory at home to Long Marston 2nd at Hales Meadow.

Luke Mitchell (3-28) and Paul Butcher (3-33) combined to dismiss the visitors for just 134 in 40 overs, but Vale struggled badly in reply.

Chris Butcher hit 30, but Vale were grateful to a 34-run ninth-wicket partnership between Mitchell and Max Owen to get home at 135-8.

Didcot 2nd kept up their promotion challenge in Division 6 after a thrilling one-wicket win at home to East Oxford 2nd.

Alex Rodman’s 4-85 and 3-6 from Elliot Matthews helped to restrict East Oxford to 195 all out.

Chris McCormack’s 72 then led the way for the home side, but they lost regular wickets to crawl over the line at 199-9.
