EDDIE Pepperell finished in a nine-way tie for ninth place at the Czech Masters in Prague.

The Abingdon golfer carded a one-under-par round of 71 today to end the European Tour event on 12 under.

It was, however, a frustrating finish for the Frilford Heath member, who dropped shots on the 15th and 17th, denying him what would have been a share of sixth.

He was never in real contention for the title though, with Italy’s Andrea Pavan winning on an impressive 22 under, two shots clear of Padraig Harrington.

Pepperell had climbed up the leaderboard with a fine display on Saturday, which saw him fire a four-under 68 in a consistent round which saw 14 pars and four birdies.

He made a flying start to the final day, picking up a shot at the first.

But a bogey at the second followed by five pars meant he was unable to close the gap on those ahead of him.

Pepperell birdied the par-four eighth and then started a charge up the leaderboard by picking up further shots at the 12th and 13th.

However, his progress faltered and his dropped shots on the 15th and 17th saw him slip back down the field.

Had Pepperell won the event, he would have given himself an outside chance of making the Europe team for the Ryder Cup in Paris next month.

Tadmarton Heath’s Liam Robinson also played in the tournament, but failed to make the cut after finishing his opening two rounds on five-over.
