WANTAGE Town suffered Emirates FA Cup heartbreak after losing on penalties in their second qualifying round replay at home to Hungerford Town.

The Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division side, who have never reached this stage of the competition, were beaten 4-1 on spot-kicks after last night’s game finished level at 2-2.

The visitors took the lead in the 25th minute when Marvel Ekpiteta converted from a Darren Foxley corner.

But Wantage levelled a minute before the break when Chris Jackson scored from the penalty spot after Marvel Ekpiteta was penalised for a foul.

However, Wantage were behind again just four minutes after the break when Ramone Rose scored from a Richie Whittingham cross.

But on 69 minutes the hosts were level again when Matt Jones turned a cross from Mark Flanagan his own net.

After neither side could find another breakthrough the game was decided by penalties, where Hungerford prevailed.

Didcot Town saw off Kidlington 1-0 in the first round of the Southern League Challenge Cup.

The Railwaymen scored the only goal three minutes before half-time through David Murphy.

Banbury United led twice against Kettering Town, but ended up losing 3-2.

Giorgio Rasulo scored twice from the penalty spot on 15 and 39 minutes, but strikes from Brett Solkhon, Andre Borg and Michael Richens won it for the visitors.
